The raison d'etre of a Social networking site is to enable people to link up .
If you ask the GenNext of India --> which site they connect to the internet , 90% would say Orkut.
(even my answer is the same..ahem )
Started in Jan 2004 by google , this site has spread the disease called orkut craziness far and wide...
being an orkut fan myself , i reveal it my way :
The most common query these days, when you meet people now is "hey r u dere in orkut?" , i think this simple statement is clear enough to highlight the fact that if you arent there, you are missing something . Inspite of mobile phones in every hand , youngistaan never forgets to check their scraps and oh yeah ! if there is time , definately CHAT is on the run .
Recent Profile visitors : yep, orkut everyday shows profile names of people who visit your profile.... a very exiting ingredient for gossips for sure, and ofcourse a very popular bahana to send scraps eg. "hey i saw ur name in visitors list , so can v b friends ?" -->i know its very dumb, but folks people do give weird reasons. Sometimes its also a gateway to New possibilities , to be precise, new aquaintances.
Well, communities in this site helps a lot to keep in touch with people like for example, if you have passed out from school or college , orkut brings back the lost connection which you had in past. (Recently, i have even found many of my school teachers orkutting, often i felt, that if i had their phone numbers, i could call them up. Finding them in this site, was like a wish come true, now they are just a few mouse clicks away :) ). I am sure many of you might have your own stories to share.
How can i forget Romance over net ..lol -->yeah many people try to find their perfect matches via orkut. People who find it funny , i would say "Men are from earth. Women are from earth. Deal with it." May be thats why there are buttons like "Add to crush list, send flowers, etc ". Folks i would say Dimaag ki Baatti jalao = If you’re too open-minded, your brains will fall out...lol.
Sharing Media files with friends and family is the new online fad. All you need to do is upload your pictures, make albums and share. Comments section is the most interesting part which helps u to keep track of what others think about your "hatke! pictures" ...ahem.
Orkut has not even spared the mobile phone -->yes, that little gadget you are carrying in your pocket or hand is now capable of connecting you to all your friends , on the move , thanx to orkut mobile... (so dont frown when you are out of station , just chillax and chant Aal izz well )
Orkut has also its share of controversies... my take on it -->Don’t be humble. You’re not that great...lol
